Fragrance oils are generally made from a combination of essential oils and synthetic aromatic compounds. They are rarely "all natural". They are unlimited in the range of possible fragrances and are usually much less expensive than pure essential oils.

Fragrance oils do not contain the true floral essence so their contribution to aromatherapy is simply their gorgeous scent. They can be beneficial however, even though they are synthetic, because their aroma can help encourage peace of mind, relaxation or a feeling of being energised depending on the particular fragrance used.

Whilst fragrance oils may not have the almost endless list of therapeutic benefits of essential oils, they should not be discounted. A scent that evokes a particular memory or emotion is a powerful thing and sometimes only a fragrance oil will do.
